How to Snack
In this day and age, everybody’s turning to a healthy way of living. It has become necessary for a person to get regular exercise and eat healthy foods (which usually means fruit and vegetables, with “a pinch of meat occasionally). There are a lot of “prescriptions” for those who yearn to get healthy, so, the only thing that a person needs to do is to choose. And, let’s face it, those who do not choose anything are frowned upon. However, there is an army of people that think that they cannot live without that delicious, yet fattening food. The main things that they find hard to renounce are snacks.
So, for those who love tasty snacking, here are some tips on how to get the best of both worlds: the healthy input without leaving taste out of the equation.
Of course, the healthiest food, and this has been known for centuries now, is fruit and vegetables. However, aside from a few things (bananas, apples, etc.), not all that many fruit are of good taste. So, in order to make it more approachable, people need to get creative. Firstly, there is freeze-dried fruit. Freeze-dried fruit pieces may go into all forms of snacks. Furthermore, the plain pieces do not have need of any added sweetener. Further, freeze-drying allows for a crisp, rather than chewy, texture. This means that they, aside from tasting, feel like real snacks. And this is very important for children who often refuse fruit because of the feel that they get, i.e. mushy, watery, etc. It is a good way of preventing obesity among children.
The best fruit, in this form, is probably apple. It preserves its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties even frozen. It has been proven that infused apples can stand in for many different fruits.
Also, blueberries have high level of antioxidants, which help defend the body against the damaging effects of free radicals.
For people who like nuts, there are various other choices, salty, sour, spicy, to choose from. Nuts are generally good, because they reduce the sensation of hunger.
People have been eating pretzels for various decades now. However, they do get boring very fast. So, to make them more interesting, people have invented a lot of ways to spice them up, so there are a lot of choices in this area, too.
Another healthy snack that everyone should eat more often is whole-grain pastry. Only recently have we started to acknowledge the importance of eating this type of food.
If one is craving for dairy products, they can always go for the ones lower in fat, which are as rich in taste and healthy properties as the basic dairy products. One has a wide variety of choices, for today there are a lot of dairy products (such as cheese, milk, yogurt, etc.) that are made with the marking "low-fat".
