Healthy Eating Habits

If you decided to adopt healthier eating habits, the first thing you should do is to find time for four or five meals a day. The portions should be small, especially in the evening. Try not to skip any meals because you will be very hungry and you will probably eat too much as soon as you get the chance to eat. Eating to much can cause various digestion problems which will affect your health. You should always carry a banana or an apple with you if you cannot plan your meals. If you want a special diet, make sure that foods you have chosen are available in the local supermarkets and that they fit in your budget. You should introduce the changes gradually, especially if your eating habits included greasy fast food and plenty of sugar.

Healthy Food

Make sure your diet contains foods from the most important groups, such as fruits, vegetables, low-fat diary products and whole grains. Also include fish, nuts, seeds and spices. All this food provides enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals that your body needs to stay healthy and fit. The healthiest fruits include apples, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, grapes, oranges, kiwis, watermelons, apricots and papayas. The most recommended vegetables for healthy eating are broccoli, carrots, spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, onions, squash, green beans, celery, lettuce, baked potatoes and peas.

Cooking Healthy

It is important to know how to prepare healthy meals. When you prepare chicken or turkey, remove the skin before you start cooking. Include healthy spices, herbs, and vinegar because they will improve the taste of food. They are an excellent replacement for salt. You can add them while you are cooking or after. It is recommended to use cayenne pepper, curry, ginger, horseradish, fennel garlic, and cinnamon. Do not deep-fry meat or vegetables because they will lose their nutritive properties. You should bake, steam or roast them instead. After you cooked a soup, you should leave it to chill and skim the fat before you eat it.

What to Avoid

Although salt makes the food taste better, avoid it at all cost. French fries and potato chips should be excluded from your diet because such food can cause high cholesterol level. Other food which should be avoided includes canned soups, hot dogs, doughnuts, ice cream and cakes. You should not eat food which contains hydrogenated fat, additives and too much protein. Also avoid processed food, sodas and artificial beverages.
