Introduction
It cannot be stressed enough how important it is what aperson eats, because the foods consumed affect one’s health and longevity.Visual indicators of the aging process are usually observed via gray hairs andwrinkles, but there is so much to it than just the visible aspect. All theinternal damage gets accumulated over time and it may lead to the occurrence ofnumerous different types of medical conditions. The chemicals which are oftenassociated with the process of aging and the occurrence of severe medicalconditions are referred to as free radicals. They are commonly created throughthe normal process of metabolism in the human body, which involves theproduction of unstable molecules of oxygen which cause the damage on thecellular level. As the person gets older, the production of free radicalsgradually gets increased. Free radicals have unpaired electrons which getattached to the electrons of the fat molecules and so the damage occurs andleads to diseases and other medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease,Parkinson’s disease, arteriosclerosis and numerous others. Sometimes it is agood idea to skip a meal or two during the day because restricting the caloriesenhances the process of destruction of the free radicals, and the fat depositsin the human body get significantly reduced.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants are certain types of chemical compounds whichare very beneficial for the overall health of the human body, because they arevery efficient in fighting off the free radicals and reducing the amount andseverity of the damage they cause on the cellular level. The brain is one ofthe most commonly damaged organs due to the negative effects of the free radicals. The aging process can be slowed down significantly by using certain over thecounter products, usually in a supplemental form. Those include antioxidants, green tea, vitamin D, l-glutathione, lycopene, beta carotene, selenium, vitaminE, vitamin B, vitamin A and several others. Selenium is also an excellentantioxidant which can be used successfully to get rid of the harmful freeradicals. Vitamin A can be stored in the human body and therefore it should notbe taken in excessive amounts. Vitamin B is sometimes very hard to absorb so itneeds to be taken in the form of supplements. Selenium fights off differenttypes of cancer and it can be found in bread, poultry, meat, nuts and fish. Thelist of natural antioxidants includes spirulina, spinach, grapes, cranberries, cherries, broccoli, blueberries, apples and several other vegetables andfruits.
