Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are normal blood vessels in the anal canal which control the stool. After some inflammation, they might become pathological and cause swelling, itching, rectal bleeding and anus pain. Possible causes of hemorrhoids include: constipation, diarrhea, aging, pregnancy, and sometimes anal sex. There are two types of hemorrhoids: internal and external, depending on their location, inside or outside the anus. External hemorrhoids are the one that cause intense pain and present much more problems than internal hemorrhoids.

Depending on a case, hemorrhoids may be really bothersome or just an annoyance. It is estimated that around 50% of all people over the age of 50 has hemorrhoids, including both sexes. Pregnant women are especially prone to suffer from hemorrhoids, but it is usually just a temporary symptom which disappears after the childbirth.

If everything else fails, there is an option of surgical removal of inflamed hemorrhoids. When you have problems with hemorrhoids, don’t wait, because they won’t resolve on their own. Try some home remedies and consult your doctor if necessary in order to avoid hemorrhoid surgery.

Doctors recommend changing the hygienic habits and using wipes instead of toilet paper, because it might be too rough to your hemorrhoids sometimes.

People suffering from this medical problem should change their eating habits as well. It is recommended to use more fibers, whole grains, fruits and vegetables in the diet, because they will soften the stool and ease the hemorrhoid pain. Diet changes should also include proper hydration, and these patients are advised to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
