Dry skin bumps
The skin is our major organ. Moreover, it is visible and every possible change on it can be noticed. Therefore, the many disorders that affect the skin are very distressful for the majority of the infected people. Mostly the dry skin bumps occur as a reaction to various allergies and in such cases, they are not a serious condition. However, when they are accompanied by some other symptoms, it is recommended to go and visit a doctor.
Causes of dry skin bumps
One of the causes for the outbreak of dry skin bumps is a condition called keratosis pilaris, which is a disorder is caused by keratin. Keratin is a protein in the body and when this protein forms hard plugs in hair follicles, keratosis pilaris occurs. The most common symptom of this condition is the outbreak of many bumps on the upper arms and thighs, as well as on other areas of the body. These bumps are of the size of sand grain and have pink color around them. Keratosis pilaris tends to aggravate during the winter and become better with the onset of summer.
Another cause for the occurrence of dry skin bumps lies in various allergies and in such cases, the skin is itchy, red and full of blisters. Dry skin bumps on skin or skin rash may also appear as the body’s response to the allergy. In the majority of cases, allergies are caused due to specific material, such as latex, or due to certain foods or weather.
Furthermore, eczema is also a cause responsible for the appearance of dry skin bumps. The most common symptoms of eczema are itchy, red and dry skin, as well as dry skin bumps, especially on cheeks and forehead. Another name for eczema is dermatitis and in the majority of cases, eczema is caused by emotional stress, certain foods and certain allergens. Wool, pets and soaps can cause eczema as well.
It is very frequent that newborn babies get bumps on their skin, but it is not a serious condition and it usually clears up gradually, without any treatment. The infants may also get diaper rash, which is manifested through a pink rash.
Hives are also cause for the occurrence of dry skin bumps. They are of various sizes and are marked by red or white bumps. Furthermore, the person with hives may experience itching and burning sensation in the area that is infected. Nuts, eggs, chocolate and milk, as well as specific medications, pollens, latex and insect bites are some of the causes for the outbreak of hives.
