Aromatherapy in Babies

Parents who decide to use aromatherapy in babies should be particularly careful. Doses for babies are calculated according to the age and weight of the kid. So, because of that, you must always know the exact dose recommended for your child by the expert aroma-therapist. However, very small babies (under 3 months old) should not be using any of the aromatherapy treatments because of possible allergies, according to the doctors.

How Can You Use Essential Oils in Babies

If you decide to use some essential oils around the baby, there are various ways to do so. First of all, you may use diffusers or vaporizers. These devices are found to be efficient way to use essential oils in the treatment of small children and not to harm them in any way. Chamomile, lavender, geranium, vanilla or orange are the most commonly used oils in this way. Simply, place few drops of the preferred essential oil into the device and it will spread in the air of the room and affect the child in desired manner.

Another way to use essential oils is to dilute it in some distilled water. Take a bottle of distilled water and add about 10 drops of essential oil of your choice. Then shake well and spray the mixture around theroom.

You may add couple of drops of essential oils to the bath water. Use lavender for this purpose and add 2 or 3 drops to the water. Lavender may also be used on the tissue near the bedside because it is known to relax and promote sleep (in both babies and adults). The same essential oil could be helpful when the baby won’t fall asleep. Rub a drop of lavender oil to your shoulder and hold the baby in your arms. After that treatment he or she should sleep in no time.

A drop of roman chamomile onto the pillow may help your baby to sleep and a drop of eucalyptus essential oil will be helpful for congestion and cold. Chamomile may also ease the teething pain, combined with an ice cube.

Massage is yet another way to use essential oils and its benefits for your baby. Massage the child with essential oils, mixing the carrier oil and few drops of tangerine, mandarin or chamomile.

Use essential oils to clean the nursery or clothes of your child, simply adding it the washing water. Mandarin, lemon or any other citrus essential oil will be great for that, as well as bergamot essential oil.
