Cellulite is one a woman’s worst nightmares. Unfortunately, the almost all post-puberty women suffer from it. Some women have a lot of cellulite and it is very visible while others have less and it only shows when they pinch their skin. It is not related to excessive body weight because even skinny teenage girls have it. Even top models have cellulite, but we cannot see it because it is airbrushed. Still, there are few women who do not care about it and most dream of banishing it forever.
What is cellulite
Cellulite, which appears as dimpled skin with tiny nodes underneath, is popularly referred to as “orange peel skin” or “cottage cheese”. It is in fact the subcutaneous fat within the skin’s connective tissue. It commonly appears on thighs, legs, bottom and abdomen.
A number of factors contribute to cellulite and science has yet to discover why if affects women so much more than men. The cause of this may be the fact that the fibrous connective tissue in women is more irregular and disconnected that in men. The general consensus is that it has something to do with diet, lifestyle, genetics and hormones.
Diets that reduce cellulite
A diet alone will not eliminate the cellulite. In fact, it is questionable whether cellulite can be eliminated completely, but it can certainly be reduced. The market today offers thousands of products that aim to reduce visible cellulite, some of them work and some do not.
Generally speaking, the amount of cellulite is related to the amount of fat in the body so it is logical that reducing body fat will lead to cellulite reduction as well. A diet that aims to reduce fat, cleansing and elimination of toxins from the body, combined with regular exercise and some changes in lifestyle are a good way to fight this undesired condition.
Fresh, preferably organic fruits and vegetables are very efficient for cleansing the body and eliminating the toxins. They contain multiple compounds like phytochemicals, fiber and minerals, as well as antioxidants that repair the damage done by the free radicals.
Certain fruits and vegetables are very beneficial for this, like berries (blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, cranberries), oranges, mangos, apples, grapefruit, spinach, tomatoes, pepper, fennel and carrots.
Essential fatty acids can also contribute to reduction of cellulite and they can be found in fatty fish, seeds and nuts.
It is very important to drink plenty of water along with a proper diet. Water plays a crucial role in flushing the toxins out of the system and it is generally very good for the skin.
What to avoid
Cigarettes, alcohol, processed foods like candy, fast food, large amounts of meat, foods that contain artificial colors and flavorings and similar may worsen the appearance of cellulite and cause its increase.
A good exercise plan, which involves the whole body, and stimulates the metabolism and circulation, should be combined with a diet in order to achieve the best and most permanent results in the fight against the cellulite.
