Cancer is a disease which can develop in everyone regardless the age and sex, and its effects are devastating since in most cases it is a fatal because the cure for this life threatening disease is not found yet. What is more, in the majority of cases, the exact culprit for developing of cancer is not known, but there are many things that contribute to the mutations within the cells and subsequent abnormal growth of cells.

The free radicals are the particles that affect normal functioning of the cells since they allow extra oxygen in the cells, which makes them more prone to break so the free radicals should be destroyed and the best way to eliminate and fight them are the antioxidant vitamins.

Foods rich in antioxidant vitamins

Fresh fruits and vegetables are always recommended for maintaining the overall health of the body, since they are low in fats but high in antioxidants and fiber. However, there are several types of fruits and vegetables that are the highest in antioxidants, such as beetroot, carrots, cherries, blackberry, strawberry and blueberry. Furthermore, red grape, walnuts and sunflower seeds are very high in antioxidants and they should be consumed in order to prevent the development of some type of cancer.

It is also considered that spices, green tea and coffee without milk are also powerful antioxidants so they should also be taken in the moderated quantities. All the fruits that contain vitamins A, C and E should be eaten since these three vitamins are potent against the free radicals. The green tea contains flavonoid, while red grape and wine contain reservatrol and these two substances are also powerful antioxidants. The antioxidants can be also found in the dark chocolate, but not in the milk chocolate as well, and it is advisable to avoid drinking milk when consuming food rich in antioxidants since it has certain properties that tend to decrease the effects of antioxidants.

Antioxidant vitamin supplement

The natural sources of antioxidants are the best, but when we do not have much fresh fruits and vegetables available, the antioxidant vitamin supplements are beneficial as well. While some experts state that the antioxidant supplements can satisfy our daily needs for antioxidants, there are also those who state that their absorption is not good as the absorption of the vitamins from the natural sources and because of that, their taking is not highly recommended after all.
