Comedones are a specific type of acne that includes whiteheads and blackheads. Just like any type of acne, they are not dangerous but everyone wants to get rid of them all the same. There are several very effective natural adult acne treatments for this particular skin problem.

About comedones

Comedones can be open and closed or almost closed. Open comedones are called blackheads and the closed ones are whiteheads. Both types of comedones are often associated with oily skin. Oily skin is the result of excessive production of sebum, which is the oil that coats the skin, protecting it and lubricating it.

When there is too much oil, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria tend to stick to it more than usually and this can lead to acne. The pores become clogged with the mixture of oil, dead skin cells and dirt particles, and clogging increases the chance of infection.

The risk of having acne is higher in people who do not eat healthy and whose diet consists of plenty of sweets, processed foods, greasy foods and sodas. Alcohol and smoking are also a risk factor. Hormonal changes, certain medical conditions, medications, environmental factors, pollution and toxins are all believed to contribute to the onset of acne.

Natural treatment for comedones

The first step in the natural treatment of any type of acne is to start leading a healthier life. It is very important to eat healthy foods, to avoid sugar, saturated fats, white flour and other types of food that are generally considered unhealthy.

Alcohol consumption should be cut down as much as possible. Plain water and green tea are highly recommended, because they promote elimination of toxins, which has a positive effect on the entire body, including the skin.

Exercise is also important. Working out increases sweating and sweating is one of the best ways to eliminate toxins from the body.

Proper personal hygiene is another crucial step in the treatment of comedones. Oily skin should be cleaned more often, especially before bedtime. Lotions containing antibacterial agents, such as benzoyl peroxide, are useful for preventing acne breakouts and for treating the existing ones. All skin products should match the individual skin type.

Comedones should never be squeezed or popped. Instead, it is recommended to use baking soda paste, saline solution, aloe vera gel or other natural remedies that will drain and dry the acne.

Vitamins are very important in the treatment of comedones. Vitamin A, C, E and B6 supplements should be taken daily, along with sources of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
