Toe Joint Pain Characteristics
Toe joint pain is quite a common sight with athletes or people who expose themselves to physical activity often. Moreover, people who run, jog, or play sports which involve jumping, tend to develop this condition, mainly due to overuse, unnatural positions, or physical blows. There are more different causes of this condition and they all have pain and discomfort in common. Reasons behind Toe Joint Pain
Besides all of the above mentioned, some other health complications may easily lead to the development of this condition too. First of all, there is arthritis. Arthritis may strike your joints due to an autoimmune disease or the deterioration of the cartilage in your toe joints. In either way, this condition manifests through pain, mobility issues, swelling and inflammation.
Secondly, there is bunion. This common condition takes place due to bone overgrowth affecting one's big toe. This causes toe deformation and moves the big toe towards other toes, resulting in discomfort and pain, among other side-effects.
Finally, toe joint pain may be caused by gout. This condition involves metabolism dysfunction which, then, results in the appearance of excessive amounts of uric acid inside one's joints. This leads to inflammation, swelling and pain which can either be constant or burst eventually. Alternatively, toe joint pay may be triggered by an ingrown toenail, improper footwear or inadequate running style.
Possible Treatment of Toe Joint Pain
Upon visiting your doctor, he or she will need to do several things before diagnosing, and deciding upon adequate treatment. The type of treatment depends greatly upon the underlying cause of the toe joint problem. Thus, an X-ray scan is done beforehand. Unfortunately, some types of arthritis are impossible to be cured. Bearing that in mind, doctors will prescribe you some anti-inflammatory medications or painkillers in order to help you cope with your troublesome condition. In cases of bunions, you are advised to rest and restrain yourself from toe movements. In more serious cases, a surgical procedure is a must.
Alternatively, you may have to take specific medications, change the type of shoes you are wearing and/ or, perhaps, make some additional changes in your lifestyle, regarding your nutrition, and/or physical activities. Finally, if all else fails, and the prescribed treatment proves to be inadequate, you are highly advised to seek medical attention once again and change the approach, since prolonging can only make things worse.
