Most people will damage or break a tooth at least once in a lifetime. These teeth will not re-grow, so most people will try to find a way to somehow replace the tooth. This is where dental implants come in handy. However, to put it bluntly, dental implants are expensive. But is the price justified? When considering the price of dental implants, one must also examine the prices of other related methods of tooth replacement. In fact, in the long term, using dental implants may in fact save you money, so in some ways, paying for the implants is something of an investment.
For dentists, aesthetics are not as important as function. Dental implants are highly functional and long-lasting. They provide a better service than other methods such as dentures or bridges and thus are often seen as a better option amongst dental professionals. In addition to this, it is better to have as many teeth in a mouth as is possible.
Prices
Normally, you can expect to pay between $1,200 to $3,200 per implant. The cost may also rise if there are any complications or unusual procedures that need to be performed. As you can see, implants can be quite expensive. Further to this, sometimes additional surgeries are required in order to fully ensure the correct installation of an implant, but this is quite a rare occurrence. It is not unheard of, also, for people to require several dental implants to be installed as a result of conditions that can affect numerous teeth over time.
If surgery is required, the total price of the implants may rise to as much as $4,000. However, this final cost can still turn out to be cheaper than certain other types of dental treatments, such as jaw surgery or bone regeneration therapy. Implants are not cheap, but most of the time, the cost is justifiable.
The implant process
First, a small surgical operation is performed in order to free up space on the jawbone. Once space is created, a titanium screw is inserted into the bone. This titanium insertion is permanent. After this, the bone begins a healing process.
The healing process can last up to six months and, upon completion of the healing period, a dental professional will then affix a replaceable prosthetic crown. The crown can be replaced as desired.
Dental implants are expensive, but the cost is usually worth it, considering that the implant is permanent.
