Pomegranate has been known virtually for millenniums for its excellent medical benefits. Those benefits are being researched and discussed today even more as there are many studies that focus on the effects of this fruit on many diseases and conditions of the modern age and most of them are interested in pomegranate juice.

Pomegranate is native to the Middle East and Asia but today it is cultivated throughout the world. It has a thick peel and a thin membrane that protects the tasty, juicy arils, or seed casings. One Israeli study has shown that pomegranate juice contributes to normalizing the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL), while it increases the good cholesterol (HDL). All it takes is to drink one glass of concentrated juice a day for a year. Other studies done in Israel, the country that is known for its significant pomegranate cultivation, have proven that pomegranate juice can be used for fighting breast cancer and that it can prevent the formation of breast cancer cells in the first place.

Other studies have been performed on laboratory animals, mostly mice, and their results have shown that pomegranate juice has its use in fighting other forms of cancer, especially prostate and lung cancer.

Drinking pomegranate juice on a regular basis improves the blood flow to the heart, improving the heart function and preventing heart-related diseases. It can also prevent the formation of plaque in the blood vessels, which is known to be a cause of different cardiovascular diseases. It has been speculated that this juice can even decrease or dissolve the already present plaque build-up.

Drinking pomegranate juice during pregnancy can protect the baby’s health especially brain functions in the event of a difficult childbirth.

Even teeth can benefit from this juice. It fights plaque and promotes general dental health.
