Meditation is a skill of ultimate self-recognition. Moreover, it teaches you how to be happy and satisfied with your life, getting connected to your inner self or any spiritual deity you might have relationships with.
Many people never try meditation since they think it is too complicated. However, this is not true. In fact, the only thing you need to do in order to start meditating is to close your eyes and stop thinking about problems, concentrating on your inner self. Yet, majority of people cannot escape the little voices in their heads, warning them about problems, making them frustrated. For a meditation session to be successful, you need to detach yourself from the rest of the world, including your obligations, for a period of about 20 minutes. The following pieces of advice will help you do this successfully.
How To Meditate
First and foremost, start gradually and progress the same way. You cannot expect to meditate for 20 minutes when you have never done this before. Thus, start with 5 minutes, three or four times a day.
Secondly, you need to find your meditation spot. This can be any peaceful and serene environment where you can escape from noises and feel comfortable and relaxed. Life may force you to meditate in your garage. Regardless, if this is the only way of escaping the world around you – do it.
Next, sit on a pillow, chair or any other comfortable object. Light candles, play music, or do whatever you need in order to become relaxed and to separate from the surroundings completely. Do not overdo it, since you need to remain awake.
Start
Once this is done, you can close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Inhale through your nose, filling your abdomen before your chest. Once your lungs are full, take a 2 second break and slowly exhale through your mouth until all of the air leaves you. Repeat this several times and focus on the parts of you which are tense, your shoulders, neck, back, face and limbs. Feel the stress and tension leaving your body, light and serenity entering instead. Feel protected, loved and happy.
Advanced Meditation
When you reach this level of relaxation, you are ready to spice it up a bit. Once you start hearing the notorious voices and messages, expel them from your body and mind, focusing on barely “being” instead of thinking. All you need is the blackness of your closed eyes and everything else is excessive.
Alternatively, you can make yourself immune to the voices and thoughts. Watch them from the distance without getting connected to them in any way.
Also, you can practice visualizing pleasant images to the finest details. This will improve your focus and concentration. Later on, when you become more skillful at this, you can create your own heaven in your mind, being your safe place you can visit whenever you want, imagining every atom of it as realistically as possible.
Finally, once you come back from your meditation, expect to feel lightheaded and confused. Bear with yourself and accommodate to the reality gradually, visiting the incredible heaven of your soul again, whenever you can.
