Low carb foods and snacks

There are people who need to intake foods that are low on carbohydrates, like people who have diabetes. Apart from people with diabetes, lots of people go on a diet that is low on carbohydrates nowadays because it is a good way to lose weight and treat obesity. People who suffer from epilepsy are often advised by doctors to go on a low-carb diet.

Fruits

Out of all the food out there, fruits are probably the best food for this diet. The reason for this is because fruits can be eaten at any time of the day and can be added to almost every meal a person prepares. There are only a couple of fruits which are high in carbohydrates. Fruits that are very low on sugar are lemon, lime, raspberries, rhubarb, blackberries and cranberries. Fruits like strawberries, casaba melon, papaya, watermelon, peaches, nectarines, blueberries, apples, apricots and grapefruit are medium on sugar and are also very low on carbohydrates. Vegetables
When a person is preparing a list for a low-carb diet he or she should know that there are plenty of vegetables that are low on carbohydrates and are also high in fiber. Beans and alfalfa are vegetables that contain the lowest amount of carbs. These two are followed by leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuce and chard. After these come the mustard green vegetables like kale, collards, endive and radicchio. Herbs like parsley, cilantro and rosemary are next on the list of low-carb vegetables. Then come the celery, cabbages, certain edible mushrooms, avocados, cucumbers, green bell and red bell peppers, green onions and carrots. This is not the full list of vegetables that are low on carbs.

Meat, seafood and eggs

Almost all types of meat are very high on protein and they have zero carbohydrates. A person who is starting a low-carb diet can add beef, chicken and turkey to the diet but should be aware when buying organ meats since some posses carbohydrates. A person should cut on the processed meats however. Lots of fish types are known to have no carbohydrates but foods like lobsters, oysters and clams are known to have some carbohydrates in them. Eggs are excellent food items because they have low amounts of carbs and high amounts of proteins. However, experts will advise a person to lay off the yolks. Dairy products and tofu
Milk should be taken with caution since one cup of whole milk contains 11.4 grams of carbohydrates. Tofu on the other hand is a good option since half a cup of it contains only one gram of carbohydrates.

Low carb snacks

For snacks or even breakfast a person can consume boiled eggs, nuts, sausages, strawberry shake, tuna salad, cheese sticks and sugar-free Jello.
