Carbohydrates seem to be the food everyone avoids these days. It often happens that the carbs intake is blamed for every single extra pound of the weight. Many people try to minimize the carbohydrates used in the food, so the list of the groceries that are low in them should be helpful when going shopping and preparing the meals.
Low Carbohydrates Food
Low carbohydrates vegetables include:, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, carrots, cucumber, kale, collard, kohlrabi, lettuce, asparagus, beet green, bok choy, watercress, onions, zucchini, pumpkin, radish, spinach, summer squash, and turnip. Mustard green, olive, parsley and pepper are also very low in carb content.
Low carbohydrate fruits are: berries (blueberries), figs, avocado, banana, coconut, tangerine, orange, grapefruit, lime, lemon, pineapple, kiwi, apple, melon, pear, plums and tomato.
Soy products, brown rice, many seeds and almonds and cashews are also considered to be low in carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates Free Food
Meat, game, fish, poultry and dairy products are absolutely non-carbohydrate food. However, it doesn’t mean that this food is not rich in fat, cholesterol, calories or sodium. On the contrary, these foods may contain many calories, but if you are looking for carbs free food – you found it. You can safely eat any kind of meat: lamb, pork, beef, chicken, or turkey. Fish is also without the carbohydrates: sardines, anchovies, trout, salmon, mackerel or halibut.
Eggs in raw condition don’t contain carbs, but boiled or cooked eggs do. One prepared egg contain one gram (1g) of carbohydrates.
Spices, herbs, condiments and pickles are also a good choice, since they are low in carbohydrates. You may use: oregano, peppers, thyme, sage or turmeric, without the fear you will add some carbs to your diet.
Most oils used to cook contain no carbs whatsoever. Sunflower, olive, canola, soybean, peanut, flaxseed or corn oil – you can choose any of these to prepare your food with them. Butter, cheeses (at least most of them), and margarine also contain 0 carbohydrates.
You might safely drink water, it doesn’t contain the carbs. Vodka, gin, whisky, wine and club soda are also carbs free. You should know, that it’s not the carbs in the alcohol drinks that provide the calories, but the alcohol itself. The stronger the booze is – more calories it has. So, if you are fighting against the extra weight, avoid the alcoholic drinks.
Diet Cola and unsweetened tea or coffee might also be the good beverage choices for people avoiding the carbs. Keep in mind that lemonade is not in the group. It’s because a can of lemonade might have up to 112g of carbohydrates.
