List of low fat foods

Introduction

Those are health oriented and are very careful about their intake of fats actually do have a large choice of numerous different types of food items which are very low on fat. Obesity is a problem which affects the people everywhere around the world so the weight consciousness is slowly becoming a very important issue.  Low fat foods may be of help in reducing one’s weight but they need to be accompanied by regular exercises.

Safflower oil, canola oil and olive oil are the best oils to use. Popcorn and pretzels are the most preferable types of snacks. Honey, maple syrup and molasses are all natural sweeteners, and they should be used instead of artificial ones. Canned tuna and salmon are a wise choice as well. Poppy seeds, peanuts, flax seeds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, almonds, sesame seeds, hazelnuts and pumpkins seeds are also low on fat. Canned vegetables and fruits with low sodium are a good choice too. Dried cranberries, raisins, blueberries and cherries are low on fat, as are low sodium canned tomatoes and tomato sauces. Whole grains, barley, chickpeas, bulgur, pinto beans, lentils, navy beans, black beans, low fat salad dressings, whole wheat pasta, seasoned mixes, garlic, spices, sun dried tomatoes, peppers, pimentos, anchovies, pickles, capers and various soups are all low fat food items.

Fruits

Fruits with a low content of fats include apple, strawberry, apricot, boysenberry, avocado, cherry, banana, cranberry, cantaloupe, currant, casaba melon, gooseberry, Crenshaw melon, loganberry, fig, raspberry, grape, blueberry, grapefruit, watermelon, honeydew melon, tangerine, lemon, pomegranate, lime, plum, kiwi, pineapple, mango, persimmon, orange, pear, papaya and peach.

Vegetables

Vegetables with a low content of fats include acorn squash, chard, artichoke, beet greens, asparagus, water crest, bean sprouts, spinach, beets, romaine lettuce, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, butternut squash, mesclun, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, collard greens, carrots, broccoli, celery, bok choi, corn, zucchini, cucumbers, wax beans, eggplant, turnips, green beans, tomatoes, Hubbard squash, sweet potatoes, iceberg lettuce, rutabaga, leeks, potatoes, mushrooms, parsnips and onions.

Meat and Fish

Meat and fish related food items which are low on fat include egg whites, shrimp, chicken breast, squid, turkey breast, scallops, lean beef, oysters, lean pork, octopus, lean lamb, mussels, lean veal, lobster, liver, crayfish, rabbit, crab, venison, clams, game hens, tuna, game birds, trout, catfish, swordfish, cod, snapper, flounder, sea bass, haddock, salmon, halibut, Pollock, herring and mackerel.

Legumes

Legumes which are low on fat include black beans, adzuki beans, black-eyes peas, white beans, chickpeas, split peas, great northern beans, soy beans, green peas, pinto beans, kidney beans, navy beans, lentils, mung beans and lima beans.

Bread and Grains

Bread and grains low on fat include whole wheat bread, whole meal, bulgur, quinoa pasta, cracked wheat, brown rice pasta, oatmeal, whole wheat products, whole grain cornmeal, whole rye, brown rice, pearl barley, wild rice, whole grain barley, millet, muesli, quinoa, popcorn, sorghum and triticale.

Dairy Products

Dairy products with low fat content include reduced fat milk, low fat cream cheese, skimmed milk, Neufchatel cheese, low fat goat’s milk, low fat string cheese, soy milk, skimmed mozzarella, low fat yogurt, goat cheese and low fat cheese.
