The two most important hormones in a woman’s body are progesterone and estrogen. When these two hormones are not in the normal levels, the woman’s body undergoes certain changes, because this hormonal imbalance usually causes serious problems to the health of a woman.

Cause of the hormonal imbalance in women

The levels of estrogen and progesterone are different from woman to woman and they can also vary from one menstruation to another. Estrogen is produced during the first 10 to 12 days of the menstruation period, while progesterone is realized during the ovulation. It happens that the levels of these two hormones fall during the menstruation and in the case when ovulation does not occur, it leads to the progesterone insufficiency. In such case, the level of estrogen is much higher than that of progesterone, and hormonal imbalance occurs. These other causes are stress, menopause, nutritional deficiency, and pollutants, as well as poor diet and irritants.

Symptoms of hormonal imbalance in women

In most cases, women tend to neglect the symptoms of hormonal imbalance that occur in the initial phase, but the fact is that these symptoms can become worse over the time. The most common warning signs of this condition are many allergies, hormonal headaches and vertigo, as well as depression, anxiety and tiredness. Moreover, many women with hormonal imbalance have decreased libido or sexual interest, but in many cases, women may experience sudden changes in behavior, irritability, gaining of weight, hair loss or thinning of hair. There are cases when premenstrual syndrome, facial hair growth and vaginal dryness were reported as symptoms of hormonal imbalance. Bloating or water retention is also a sing of this condition.

Hormonal imbalance may manifest also through endometriosis, which is the medical term for the forming of specific cells around the uterine cavity. Moreover, there are women that may experience fibrocystic breasts. This condition is not cancerous and is marked by lumpiness in one or both breasts. Several others symptoms of hormone imbalance in women are yeast infection, urinary tract infections and uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are abnormal benign growths in the uterus.

Prevention of hormonal imbalance in women

To prevent the occurrence of hormonal imbalance a woman must have a healthy diet with lots of nutrients, such as minerals, vitamins, omega acids, and proteins. Furthermore, regular exercises, such as running, walking or swimming can be very helpful because they reduce stress.
