Tonsillitis, the most common symptoms and causes

Inflammation of the tonsils, or medically tonsillitis, is the condition that usually manifests through the swollen and red tonsils, problems with swallowing and sore throat. Along with these symptoms, fever, headache, stiffness in the neck and stomachache may also occur, while the children with this problem usually don’t want to eat and tend to drool. In the majority of the cases, tonsillitis is a result of some kind of an infection, whether viral or bacterial, and it can be acute or chronic.

Homeopathic remedies for tonsillitis

Inflammation of tonsils is usually treated with homemade remedies and antibiotics, but in cases in which tonsillitis tends to occur frequently, as well as in cases in which these methods of the treatment do not bring out positive results, surgery is the only remaining solution, and it requires removal of the tonsils. In order to avoid this drastic measure, people will gladly try out every other method first, and homeopathic remedies proved to be very effective when it comes to the treatment of this condition.

Many homeopathic remedies give positive results, and among them are baryta carbonica, calcarea phosphorica, belladonna, gelsemium, ignatia, and mercurius. Baryta carbonica is effective in the treatment of acute tonsillitis and in cases of children with chronic enlargement of tonsils, whereas calcarea phosphorica has proven to be helpful in cases that result in pale tonsils and impaired hearing. Belladonna should be used in the early stage of this disease, and it can relieve the symptoms such as red and swollen tonsils, stiffness of the neck and ulcers. Gelsemium relieves the pain in tonsils, which may sometimes spread to ears even, while ignatia is recommended for follicular tonsillitis and white and yellow small ulcers. Mercurius is recommended for tonsillitis in the advanced stage, because it helps with pus, swelling, ulcers, foul breath, and pain.

Besides these, amygdale persica, guaiacum, silicea, and hepar sulphur can be used, as well as a number of other remedies. Regardless of the disease, when it comes to homeopathic remedies, it is important to stick to the recommended dosage and to be patient, because it does not always have to be the case that the first remedy chosen will be the most suitable one. In some cases, it is necessary to try out two or even more in order to find out which one is the most effective, because when choosing the right remedy, besides the symptoms of the disease, characteristics of the personality also should be taken into consideration.
