There are several different conditions of the scalp that are regarded as dandruff. Dandruff can affect anybody, at any age, and it should be treated. Dandruff involves scaling of the scalp, which comes off in form of flakes when mechanically disturbed, like when combing, brushing, or just shaking hair. Scaling can encompass the entire scalp or just one specific area. Causes for dandruff can be too dry scalp, too oily scalp, or condition such as neurodermatitis, or psoriasis of the scalp.
Prevention methods
Best method for keeping dandruff at bay is to shampoo your hair frequently. It is also wise to brush daily (in direction opposite to the direction of hair growth) as it improves circulation and removes flakiness. You should keep your brushes and combs clean if you have dandruff. One-fingertip massage of the scalp before or after brushing is also a good idea. People affected by the dandruff should avoid spicy and greasy food and beverages rich with caffeine such as strong tea and coffee.
