Proteins are considered to be some of the most beneficial nutrients as they regulate a number of body functions, such as repairing body cells, muscles and bones, providing the body with a boost in energy and controlling some of the processes of the metabolism. Therefore, a diet that is based on proteins sounds like a very healthy diet, if, of course, it is balanced properly.

How does a high protein diet work?

The thing about this diet is that it is considered one of the most successful diets out there, meaning that it is quite healthy and effective as well. Its magic lies in the fact that, being very high in protein, it makes it difficult for the energy to burn out quickly, therefore the person does not really feel the urge to eat all that much and break the rules of the diet. Also, once the protein is inside the body, it begins the process of the so-called gluconeogenesis, which basically means it starts turning to glucose. This particular process is the key to losing weight as it wastes the most calories, and all the protein that is taken in helps release the bottled up water from the carbohydrates. That way, the person is loosing both the excessive fluids from the body and the actual fat.

What does a high protein diet regime look like?

A high protein diet regime involves some renouncing of foods that are rich in sugars, saturated fats and carbohydrates, which is to say, the main things to avoid are pastas, cereals and all kinds of sugar, whether they are white, brown or powder.

On the other hand, the kinds of food to turn to are dairy, beans and nuts. When it comes to dairy products, it’s essential to integrate as many kinds of cheeses as possible, as well as milk and yogurt. Which other ones will be consumed is up to the consumer’s preference. As for the beans, any kinds are acceptable, really. From soy beans, to black beans, to lentils, they are all equally healthy and welcome in the diet. Finally, the nuts and seeds that should be included in the diet are almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, pecans, flax seeds, and sunflower seeds.

Following the proper high protein diet plan is all well and good, however, that is not the only part of the regime. This regime also includes some sort of physical activity. Whether it is taking a one-hour walk every day or going to the gym, regular exercise is just as important as a healthy diet.
