Lupus

Lupus is an autoimmune inflammatory disease. Inflammation can affect any body system or organ. Most commonly it affects skin, joints, heart, lungs, kidneys and blood cells. There are many different symptoms which are caused by lupus disease, but they vary from one person to another and they depend on the affected organ. The common symptoms may include fever, changes in weight, fatigue, loss of hair, sores in the mouth and changes in mood and behavior. You can also have skin disorders, such as lesions or rash on the face, which can get worse when you are exposed to sun. Other common symptoms of lupus include swelling or stiffness of the joints, dryness of the eyes, bruising, pain in the chest and breathing difficulties. The period of time when the symptoms suddenly get worse is called a flare.

Herbs and Supplements

It is important for you to keep your body strong and healthy because this way you can ease the symptoms of lupus and slow down the development of the disease. Make sure you take vitamin B complex and vitamins C and E. This combination of vitamins will improve your blood flow and protect you from the inflammation. Take enough sulfur, calcium, zinc and selenium. By using fish oil supplements which contain omega-3 fatty acids you will have many benefits. Flaxseed is also recommended, especially if lupus affected the kidneys. Other herbs which can be helpful in dealing with lupus include licorice root, red clover, yucca, alfalfa, and cat's claw.

Diet

You should be careful what you eat, because certain food can make the symptoms of lupus worse. Avoid milk products, potatoes, tomatoes, red meat and eggplants. It is recommended to consume fish, pineapple, green vegetables, fruits and whole grains. You should eat plenty of eggs, onions and garlic because this food is rich in sulfur. Sulfur helps absorb calcium which is important for healthy bones.

Lifestyle

It is recommended to make some lifestyle changes if you were diagnosed with lupus. Since fatigue is a common symptom, you should get plenty of sleep every night and sleep in the afternoon as well. When you go out on the sun, make sure you do not expose much of your skin because sunlight can worsen the symptoms. Moderate exercises which last half an hour every day will improve your blood flow and overall health. You can also do yoga, meditation, acupuncture or aromatherapy. You should eat healthy and stay away from cigarettes.
