Eye health and eye care are very much important, if not crucial, to protect the sight and prevent common eye conditions. It is especially important that children should be taken to have their vision tested. During the summer months, parents should protect their child’s eyes from the sun.

Over-exposure to ultra-violet rays can severely contribute to the loss of vision. Hazardous effects of excessive sun exposure also include development of melanomas, age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. Children who spend a lot of their time in front of TV or computer should be encouraged to take regular breaks and relax their eyes before they become sore and tired. Healthy diet is also important to protect the vision in childhood. Foods known for their eye-benefits include oranges, carrots, broccoli, peas, mangoes, spinach, sweet corn and grapes.
