Soreness in Armpits. Is it Serious?
This may not look like some important problem to those who haven't experienced it, but to those who had it still may. It is important never to neglect this problem, because if left untreated it can lead to some other potentially more dangerous problems. In most cases, bacterial, fungal and viral infections are usually the culprits which are to blame for the armpit soreness. This problem may also be a symptom of a much more serious problem, such as cancer. Causes of Sore Armpits
Bacterial infections such as lymphadenitis, ascending lymphangitis and cat scratch disease are the most common cause of soreness in armpits. It can lead to the soreness and it can also create a painful lump on the armpit. The Inflammation of the lymph vessels is a problem connected with the lymphadenitis and lymphangitis. Another possible cause is cancer such as Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukemia. Viral disorders such as shingles, chickenpox, mononucleosis and AIDS can also produce armpit soreness. These viral infections also produce swelling of the lymph glands, sore throat and fever. In certain rare cases, allergic reaction to vaccines such as iodine, penicillin, thyroid vaccines, smallpox vaccines and sulfa drugs may also be held responsible for the onset of soreness in armpits. The joint areas of the body are typically much darker than the rest of the body. This explains why the armpits, elbows and knees appear a bit darker than the surrounding skin. Dark armpits can also be easily noticed especially by women who shave this area of the body. The most definitive misconception is that excessive perspiration causes dark armpits. These two are actually not related. Only if a person is sweating a lot and uses particular deodorants or perfumes the combination of these two may cause darkening of the armpits. If this occurs simple change of the product can be effective. Another cause of dark armpits is excessive friction. Too tight tops, especially if a person is obese lead to friction of the skin and fabric which may consequently result in darkening of the particular area. Women shave their armpits and this is another possible cause of dark armpits. Shaving causes thickening of armpit hair and if one does not shave for a couple of days or even more the armpits appear even darker. Even prolonged usage of hair removal creams may result in darker discoloration of the armpits. Improper hygiene of the armpits results in remnant dead skin cells which may appear as dark spots. How to Treat Sore and Dark Armpits
Home treatment of soreness in armpits is not advised since the exact cause must be discovered and this may prove difficult to accomplish at one’s home. It is best to see a doctor who will make a proper diagnosis and give a proper treatment. Before going to the hospital, one should write down all the medications that he or she takes at the moment and symptoms that may be present. One needs to keep the armpit area clean. Using soap and washing the armpit two times a day and drying it well after the wash will surely help if the problem is a result of skin infection. Since majority of cases of dark armpits are not actually serious dark they can also be easily treated at home with a variety of home remedies. Lemon juice is an excellent natural bleacher and it can also successfully scrub the dead skin cells. This fruit is supposed to be cut into halves and then directly rubbed all over the affected area. It should be left for a while and then washed off with lukewarm water. Apart from lemon this ritual can be also performed with cucumber and potato. Dark armpits can be additionally treated with a paste made of sandal wood powder and two teaspoons of rose water. After being applied the paste is supposed to dry and then get rinsed with cold water. Another home remedy includes a mixture of one tablespoon of gram flour, one teaspoon of yogurt, one teaspoon of milk and a pinch of turmeric. A combination of a pinch of saffron which is soaked in two teaspoonful of milk cream can also be rubbed on the armpit. This paste is supposed to be left over night and then washed in the morning.
