Arthritis

Arthritis is the medical term that describes damage of thejoints in the body. This medical condition might be caused by infection ortrauma to the joint or age and in some cases by autoimmune disorder.

Arthritis can be a primary disease and the most common areosteoarthritis, rheumatoid, juvenile and gout arthritis. This condition mightalso be caused by some other medical problems, including hepatitis, Lymedisease, sarcoidosis, hemochromatosis, inflammatory bowel diseases, etc.

Arthritis Treatments

Arthritis can’t be cured, only managed. Medications can decreasethe symptoms and slow the progression of this condition to some extent. Other possibilitiesto manage arthritis include herbal remedies, yoga and special anti-arthritisdiet.

Anti-arthritis diet

Although there are is no scientific proof, many arthritispatients experience improvement of their condition only by changing the diet. Specialistsstrongly advise these patients to reduce their daily calorie intake below 2.000calories.

Excess weight could put extra pressure in the joints and worsenthe existing arthritis. Overweight people are the high risk patients to developthis condition. Because of that, overweight patients are advised to lose thoseextra pounds and maintain healthy weight. Patients should eat plenty of high fiberfood, fresh fruit and vegetables and avoid fatty and high calorie food. Thesepeople should exercise regularly. Because of their condition, they might walkor jog. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided, for it may worsen thesymptoms.

Patients suffering from arthritis should eat food rich inomega 3 fatty acids. Tuna, trout salmon, mackerel, sardines, and herring are thehighly valued sources of these fatty acids.

Different kinds of pulses and grains are proven to bebeneficial for arthritis patients. Therefore, they should include brown rice,whole wheat bread and lentils into their everyday menu.

Cooking herbs can reduce the joint inflammation. Many arthritispatients experience improvement of their condition when they start usingginger, garlic and turmeric in the meals.

Fruits rich in vitamin C are highly appreciated in arthritispatients. These include almost all fruits, including strawberries, apples,mango, kiwi, peaches, etc. Doctors recommend eating vegetables, such as: bellpeppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collards, spinach and sweetpotatoes.

Nuts and seeds are recommended also. These patients shoulduse more walnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts and seeds, such as pumpkin sunflower andlinseeds.

What to Avoid

Some food must be avoided, because it could worsen arthritispain. Meat is not good for you, especially red and fatty meat, if you have arthritis. Avoidsalt, sugar, soft drinks, soda, dairy products, caffeine, food additives, corn andflour.

Stressful lifestyle might also worsen arthritis, so makesure to avoid, or at least decrease unnecessary stress in your life.
