Endometriosis is a medical condition characterized with the attachment of endometrium parts to different organs in the body. Many women all around the world suffer from this gynecological problem. Parts of the endometrium react to hormone changes in the female body every month and bleed, forming clots and growing. It also causes pain during the normal menstrual cycle and may even be the cause of infertility for these women.

Endometriosis is one of the conditions that can be significantly improved if you follow few simple rules about the food you eat. There are some foods recommended for these patients, but also some that should be avoided at any cost, since they could worsen the current situation.

What Should You Be Eating?

Legumes, especially beans and peas are very welcomed if you are suffering from endometriosis. Also, you could eat carrots, celery, garlic, onions, fennel and different cabbages (also known as brassicas – broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprout, bok choy etc). Seeds, seed spouts, sage, parsley and ginger should also find their place on your menu every day. It is recommended to drink yogurt and some green tea, to manage your endometriosis. Some fruits are also beneficial, and nutritionists advise eating apples, rhubarb and kinds of red and purple berries.

Oils rich in omega3 fatty acids should be used as the integral part of your dishes, as well as the food that contain this oil. Olive oil, safflower oil, but also walnut oil (and walnuts), flax seeds and oil and evening primrose oil are recommended. There is also various food containing high amounts of omega3 fatty acids, highly appreciated for it in endometriosis patients (and others, also). These are: tuna, salmon, halibut, brown rice, whole grains, oatmeal, beans and winter squash.

Using these groceries, your menu will be filled with basic nutrients for normal and healthy functioning of the body, even withendometriosis.

Endometriosis and Food to Avoid

Refined carbohydrates, sugar, honey, chocolate, wheat, soy and eggs must be avoided if you want to feel better when suffering from endometriosis. Alcohol and caffeine are also not advised.

The main causes of the pain in this medical condition are prostaglandins, substances in the body derived from the fatty food you eat every day. So, you should remember to cut down the fat you are taking with your food. For this reason, you should avoid fried food, hydrogenated fats, meat and all animal products.

Dairy products, butter, coconut oil, palm oil and even cocoa butter should not be used, since they all contain the fatty oils and promote the production of prostaglandins.
