Nowadays, the sun rays are a lot stronger than they were several hundred years ago. That is one of the main reasons why people are making sure that they remain well protected from the harmful rays that the sun projects. This is one of the reasons why people consider sunscreen to be very important in today’s life. There is no better way for a person to protect him or herself from the UV rays than by applying sunscreen. This way a person will avoid getting sunburn, dark spots and various other skin problems. An adult knows that he or she should apply sunscreen every time he or she is exposed to the sun. However, that is not recommended for the infants under six months of age. The main reason why that is so, is because of all the chemicals that these sunscreens are made of. However, that belief is changing nowadays and experts believe that babies should wear sunscreen when they are taken outside. Parents need to know that it is very important to choose the right sunscreen.
How to choose baby sunscreen?
Probably the best way a parent can protect his or her baby from the sun rays is by not exposing it to the rays in the first place, at least in the first half a year. In some cases that is not possible and it is very important that the parents apply sunscreen to the baby’s skin in those cases. This is why parents need to know what kind of sunscreen they should purchase.
When buying a sunscreen for the baby, the parents should make sure that it contains no chemicals. A sunscreen that has zinc or titanium dioxide is considered to be safe for the baby. These sunscreens have a broad spectrum written on their label. When thinking about the SPF factor for the babies, it should be between 15 and 30. 15 is considered to be ok because not even a 30 SPF factor can provide 100% protection.
How to apply baby sunscreen?
Before applying the sunscreen a parent should apply it only to a small patch of the baby’s skin. This is done in order to be determined whether the baby is allergic to the sunscreen. If there are no negative reactions after one day, then that sunscreen is considered to be safe for usage. It is important to apply the sunscreen at least half an hour before the baby is taken out. Reapplying the cream every two hours is also important. A parent should dress the baby properly and apply the sunscreen only to the exposed areas.
