A Brief Introduction
Usingnatural alternatives instead of prescription drugs has been a growingphenomenon around the world. This way of healing is not only verydiverse, but is also so effective that it may be considered properhealth care in any country of the world.
Thisis a quickly growing global phenomenon, but it's got its down sidesas well.... Namely, it may prove quite risky and dangerous, and isoften quite costly.
So how is it differentfrom mainstream medicine?
Wellfirst off, prescription drugs are a scientific endeavor, whilstalternative medicine and natural alternatives are most certainly not.And this is all in spite of the fact that alternative and herbalmedicine is much older than conventional medicine.
However,it is also important to note that, lately, modern medicine has also significantly increased its awareness of herbal treatmentsupplements, as the herbal industry in general.
Andherbal supplements are nothing else but a type of dietary supplement. They may consist of a mixtures or a single type of herb. Theproperties of these herbs (their scent, flavor, etc.) are then usedto therapeutic ends. However at the time at which they were used as aprimary means of treatment, there were not as many mortal pestilencediseases as there are today.
So why, then, useherbs today?
Peopletoday prefer conventional medicine to herbal supplements seeminglythanks to the advertising power behind them. And that very samefactor makes them so uninterested in any other form of treatment thatthey wouldn't even consider a natural solution.
Secondly, there is a form of "complementary medicine" which is usedas a form of treatment which is coupled with traditional medicine. However, it doesn't have to be that way since not every bit ofcomplementary medicine needs to be coupled with the traditional onein order to work.
Anexample of this would be the fact that just about anyone who hearsthe word "cholesterol" thereby links it to the word"deadly" – almost by default. And this simply isn't true, because cholesterol is a vital substance, and it is only when it isin excess that it becomes dangerous.
Andin order to prevent having high cholesterol (whether it be byincreased liver production or by means of a terrible diet), a personmust follow a number of strict rules such as: becoming more active, eating low-cholesterol foods as well as maintaining a diet which isrich in soluble fiber.
Andthis is exactly where natural treatments may kick in, since Lecithin(which is a natural substance derived from the soybean) may beincorporated into the person's diet, in order to lower his or herhigh cholesterol atop or instead of the previously mentioned, traditional methods. And there are many similar examples of such treatments which may be exercised similarly.
Conclusively, it is very important not to feel hindered to try alternative ways of healing just because they aren't approved by the media.
