Shiatsu is a Japanese massage that uses fingers to apply pressure on certain points on the body. The rhythmical pressure applied with fingers restores the body’s balance and energizes it.

Aromatherapy massage uses essential oils that have specific effects on the body and the mind. The purpose can be relaxation, reduction of stress levels or energizing effect. Lavender is one of the most widely used oils in aromatherapy.

Swedish massage therapy is very relaxing, it uses oils and lotions applied with smooth, wide strokes and circular motions.

Finally, there is the hot stone massage, whose popularity has been consistently increasing over the past decade.

Hot stone massage

This specialty massage uses smooth stones, usually basalt, that are heated to a certain temperature. Basalt is usually used because this volcanic rock easily absorbs the heat and stores it longer than other types of stones. The stones, which vary in size and weight, are positioned on certain points of the body, aiming to warm up and stabilize energy centers that exist in the human body.

Most therapists first perform Swedish massage or other relaxing massage techniques to help the client relax completely. The stones, which have previously been sanitized, are then heated and placed on specific points. Those points are mostly located along the spine, but most therapists also place them in the palms, on the belly or between the toes too. The therapist may also gently press the stones in order to stimulate those specific points.

The greatest benefit of this massage is the fact it relieves muscle tension and soothes sore muscles. It is a perfect choice for people who are exposed to stress and who, as a result of that, suffer from stiff, tense muscles in the back, shoulders and the neck. After hot stone massage, the clients feel very relaxed, both physically and psychologically.
