Breadfruit
Breadfruit is a kind of round starchy fruit which usually has no seeds. The reason it’s called breadfruit is its resemblance to bread in both color and texture when baked. This fruit has become increasingly popular over the years due to its high nutritional values and the fact that it contains the good kind of calories which the metabolism burns with no problem whatsoever.

The nutritional elements contained in breadfruit

Breadfruit is filled with every nutrient imaginable; one could even say that it is the perfect fruit for everyone who cares about nutrition and healthy dieting. First of all, breadfruit contains all of the main nutrients, which include proteins, fiber, carbohydrates and fats. Secondly, breadfruit is rich in almost every vitamin, from vitamin C to vitamin E to vitamin K and finally to vitamin B6. As if this weren’t enough, it also stores many kinds of minerals, like potassium, magnesium, zinc, sodium, selenium, copper and phosphorus. On top all of that, it contains iron, calcium, manganese, riboflavin, niacin and thiamin as well. Finally, it stores surprisingly large amounts of water. One thing that’s important to mention is that not every fruit holds an equal or, at least, an approximately equal amount of each of these elements. It usually differs from one fruit to another.

The disadvantages of breadfruit

After all the nutritious elements that are combined together into one small fruit, which is basically quite the little energy bomb, it’s hard to even think of its disadvantages. However, they do have a few, and it is important to mention them and keep them in mind just in case.

The first problem with breadfruit lies in the fact that it has quite an amount of both carbohydrates and sugars. This would not be such a problem if it weren’t for the fact that it also contains fats. When these two are combined together, they make it somewhat difficult for the metabolism to burn them as quickly as it should. The difficulty that is digesting all these carbohydrates and sugars whenever the fruit is consumed should make it clear that it really isn’t recommended to eat this fruit late at night for that will be even harder. But this is not really a big cause for concern as some physical activity will burn these calories in no time. Whether it is a short run or a half-hour walk, it will be quite effective.

Another disadvantage of breadfruit is in regard with cooking it. And, while it can be cooked in a variety of ways, there is one thing that is a universal problem with cooked breadfruit. It is the fact that all the highly beneficial vitamins it contains completely oxidize from the fruit once it’s cooked, diminishing its nutritional value significantly.
