The main natural sources of caffeine are tea and coffee beans, but it can also be found in many energy drinks and sodas. It is also proven than caffeine can be found in some chocolates as well. There are experts who state that caffeine is a drug since the person can become addictive to it. Caffeine can be easily found and because of that, it is believed to be the most addictive product worldwide.

Effects of caffeine

Caffeine has many negative effects on the human body. As we have already mentioned earlier, it arouses the central nervous system and thus, it affects its functioning. Furthermore, when one consumes caffeine, the heart is beating more rapidly making the blood vessels wider. Because of that, the brain gets more amounts of oxygen, which makes it more alert and active, though only for a while. When the effect of caffeine ends, the person usually takes another cup of coffee or some other product that contains caffeine, and eventually becomes addicted to it since the tolerance for caffeine is already developed.

The ordinary side effects of caffeine are high blood pressure, sleep disorders and increased heart rate. Furthermore, headache, dizziness and poor concentration are also some of the side effects of caffeine.

Caffeine withdrawal side effects

The adenosine receptors, which are in the human brain, are more produced when there is caffeine in the body. When one stops consuming caffeine, several side effects appear as a consequence of the body’s oversensitivity to these receptors. The side effects of caffeine withdrawal are not dangerous and do not last for a long time. The two main side effects of caffeine withdrawal are headaches and cravings for products that contain caffeine. Furthermore, the people who stop taking in caffeine usually experience irritability, nausea and vomiting, as well as pain and stiffness in the muscles. Poor concentration, insomnia, nervousness and restlessness are also some of the side effects of the caffeine withdrawal. It is also observed that fatigue, anxiety and ringing in the ears may appear in the people who stop using caffeine products.

When one decides to stop consuming caffeine, it is important not to stop it abruptly; instead, gradual reducing of the amounts of caffeine is a much better solution. However, the side effects are only temporary and they are endurable.
