A few words about gangrene

Gangrene is among the most severe diseases which could have the death as the consequence, and appears as the result of the poor circulation and thus, lack of nourishment to the specific part of the body. That is why it most commonly affects the most remote parts of the body, such as heels, toes and fingers and, additionally, that is why this terrifying complication is tightly associated to the disorders of the arteries, veins and capillaries.

It is also good to point out that the people with diabetes and smokers are under the significantly increased possibility of being affected by the death of a tissue. That is mostly because the harmful material from the cigarette’s smoke accumulates on the walls of the blood vessels and the decreased production of insulin leads to the complicated process of decomposing the foods which results in the damage to the vessels.

However, there are several types of this condition and each one of them has slightly different following signs. But, in general, the most prominent indicators are the dark color of the affected tissue, the pain which varies according to the severity of the problem, the loss of any sense of the touch over the affected spot, and the secretion of the mucus of rather unpleasant smell.

Nevertheless, there are 3 major groups of the gangrenes and the indicators and following troubles additionally depend on which area is affected and what is the provoker of it. So, in the case of the damp gangrene, it is triggered by the acute stop of the blood flow, and it is characterized by the secrete, the unpleasant smell resembling fuel, the pain which could be described as harsh, fever, the inflammatory process, and, therefore, the redness around the affected spot.

On the other hand, when it comes to the dry gangrene, it is usually the consequence of rather chronic disruption of the blood flow. It is manifested along with the total loss of the sense of touch in the affected area, with certain redness around, brownish to black color of the spot, and with the constant pain.

Finally, when it comes to the treatment, most commonly, this problem is treated by the antibiotics (in the case of the gaseous gangrene) and the painkillers. Of course, the surgery is recommendable for improving the circulation, that is, in the case of the dry gangrene; and intervention of the removal of the gangrenous tissue (in the cases of the two other types gangrene). Gangrene is successfully treated only when the treatment starts immediately.
