Introduction to warts on the lips

Warts can appear anywhere on the body. They can arise on the hands, genitals or feet. Some of the most problematic warts are those that appear on the lips, particularly because they are so unsightly.

Warts are skin growths that look a little like cauliflower and are usually the result of a viral infections.

When the warts appear on the lips or mouth, they can completely alter the appearance of the mouth area, though usually they occur on the corners of the mouth.

When it is the case of a severe viral infection, then there will be a fairly large bump appearing on the lips.

Even though warts are usually painless, they are unsightly, and drinking a lot of hot or cold beverages can irritate them, especially when they are so inconveniently located on the lips, where all these beverages must pass in order to get into the mouth.

Sometimes people who have genital warts can see them spread to the lips. Genital warts are considered to be a sexually transmitted disease and they result from sexual intercourse and are very contagious.

Even though the lip wart is usually not related to sexual transmission, it could have appeared from genital contact, because the warts on the genitals are highly contagious and can spread to just about any part of the body with contact.

For example, if a person scratches the area of the genitals that is infected and then touches their lips, a wart could appear there as well.

That is why it is important for people who have warts to practice proper hygiene and to wash their hands on a very regular basis in order to avoid the spreading of the genital warts to other parts of the body or to other people that they might come in contact with during the course of the day. There are several different options for trying to remove warts. Medications can be taken, and they are available at almost any pharmacy. These medications usually come in the form of an ointment or cream of some type and they can be directly applied to the warts in order to dry them out and try to get rid of them.

If that does not work, since warts are very pesky and hard to get rid of permanently, there are other methods such as, freezing the warts. He warts will be frozen and scraped off in this case. There are several freezing agents that are available on the market as well.

In more serious cases in which the warts simply will not go away, laser treatment can be used to burn off the wart. If people are not comfortable with lasers then they can try surgical procedures that will cut the wart off and remove it.
