Information on Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is usually affiliated with pregnancy and it affects most young women that are to become mothers. Unfortunately, the sickness may last throughout the entire day.

The morning sickness usually occurs between the 4th and the 16th week of pregnancy. Although most women experience vomiting and nausea as the main symptoms of the morning sickness, the condition may not affect all women in the same way. Some women may experience certain other symptoms as well such as backache, swollen breasts, constipation, tender breasts, darkening of breast nipple, lower abdominal cramps, excessive salivation, an increased sense of smell, exhaustion, headache, frequent urination, and food cravings.

Morning sickness is actually an indication of a healthy pregnancy and should not be the cause of any worries. The lack of morning sickness also does not mean that there is something wrong with the pregnancy.

Symptoms of Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be characterized by numerous different symptoms. The most common symptom is the swollen, tender breasts which sometimes can be accompanied by a sore or tingly sensation. Sometimes they also may feel heavier and fuller than usual. Fatigue is also among some of the most common symptoms of pregnancy, because the levels of progesterone get increased significantly while the levels of blood pressure and the amount of sugar in the blood get decreased.

Slight vaginal bleeding may sometimes occur as one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy and is often referred to as the implantation bleeding. Some patients may also experience abdominal cramping which can feel similar to menstrual cramps. Nausea and vomiting can occur at any time of day and not just in the morning and they usually disappear on their own by the time the 17th week of pregnancy arrives.

Nausea is usually triggered by high levels of estrogen, but it may also occur due to an environmental irritation because women have a heightened sense of smell during pregnancy. Hormonal changes can also trigger aversions to certain types of food and at the same time they can be the cause of cravings for some other types of food.

Hormonal changes can also trigger headaches due to the increase in the blood circulation. Progesterone slows the pace at which the food passes through the intestines which may lead to constipation in some cases. Hormones can also be responsible for constant mood swings. Faintness and dizziness may also be associated with pregnancy in certain cases. It is also not uncommon for the basal body temperature to get slightly raised.
