Voriconazole

Voriconazole is a medication which is used for treatment of various fungal infections. Before you start taking Voriconazole, you should inform your doctor if you have any allergies, if you are pregnant or if you are breastfeeding. Also notify your doctor about any medications that you take because Voriconazole should not be combined with a number of other drugs. Your doctor should know about any medical problem or a disease that you have because the dose of Voriconazole would have to be adjusted. This medication is not recommended for the patients who have cancer, problems with the liver, heart disease, problems with metabolism or digestion. Voriconazole is available is forms of tablets and injections.

Common Side Effects

The most common side effects of Voriconazole include skin rash, light sensitivity, vision impairment, headache, dizziness, faintness, pain in the stomach, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Common side effects also include mild behavior and mental changes. If you do not adjust to Voriconazole in a couple of days, visit your doctor.

Uncommon Side Effects

Side effects of Voriconazole which are less common may include pain in the stomach or abdomen, bloating, swelling of the feet or hands, changes in urination and changes in color of the stool. You may also experience fever, chills, mouth dryness, excessive thirst and headache. Some patients feel dizzy and lightheaded when getting up too fast from sitting of lying position. You may notice changes in appetite which can lead to weight gain or weight loss; pain in the muscles or muscle spasms; you may also experience excessive perspiration, irregular pulse, tingling sensation or numbness in the hands or feet, tremors, fatigue, bad breath, blood in the vomit and jaundice. Side effects of Voriconazole which are rare include blood in the stool or urine, bleeding in the eye or gums, pain in the eye, pain in the chest, paleness of the skin, severe skin disorders, sore throat, with patches in the throat or mouth, swelling of the glands and kidney failure.

Serious Side Effects

If you feel any changes, such as fever, breathing difficulties, tightness in the chest or faintness, after receiving Voriconazole injection, notify your doctor as soon as possible because such reaction to the injection may be life-threatening. You may also experience an allergic reaction to Voriconazole, which includes swelling of the face, lips or tongue, skin irritation, itchiness, rash, and tension in the chest. Any side effect which is severe and persistent requires medical help.
