Usage

Tegretol is a medication which is used in treatment of the nerve pain, epileptic seizures and bipolar disorder. Tegretol affects the nerve impulses in such way to prevent the pain and seizures. This medication is not recommended for patients who have problems with the bone marrow. It is important to inform your doctor about any other medications that you use because Tegretol cannot be combined with some drugs. Pregnant women and mothers who are breastfeeding should not take Tegretol because it can cause damage to the baby. You should notify your doctor about allergies and diseases because Tegretol is not used in cases of glaucoma, heart problems, lupus, kidney or liver disorders, porphyria and some mental disorders. Use Tegretol exactly as you doctor advised.

Overdose and Allergic Reaction

The signs of overdose with Tegretol may include breathing difficulties, irregular pulse, sickness, vomiting, muscle spasms, tremors, urination problems, speech problems, fainting and agitation. Allergic reactions to Tegretol are similar to those of any medication. Such reactions include skin irritation, rash, itchiness, breathing difficulties, tension in the chest, and swelling of the tongue, lips or face.

Side Effects

Every medication has a number of side effect, and so does Tegretol. Some of the side effects which are not considered to be dangerous are dizziness, tiredness, pain in the stomach, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, mild headache, impaired vision, ringing sound in the ears pain in the muscles or joints, cramps in the legs and dry mouth. It is advised to inform your doctor about any unusual changes so the dose of Tegretol can be adjusted. Some of the more serious side effects of Tegretol includes severe headaches and skin disorders such as rash or blisters, fever, chills, sore throat, sores in the mouth, fatigue, bleedings, paleness, bruising, sickness, vomiting, severe pain in the stomach, appetite loss, weight changes, urination problems, swelling of the joints, swelling of the lymph nodes, breathing difficulties, hallucinations and jaundice. Serious side effects also includes mood and behavior changes. You may have difficulties with thinking process and reflexes. In some cases Tegretol can even worsen your symptoms so you can experience physical or mental hyperactivity, anxiety, restlessness, agitation and depression. You may also behave aggressively and violently and have suicidal tendencies. Alcohol consumption and exposure to sun can raise the risk of side effects.
