About Malarone

Malarone is one of the antimalarial medicines that can beused in the prevention of malaria, and in the treatment of the same disease, but only in cases where the infected patients haven’t been treated byprophylactic drugs. It is particularly used in the malaria-risk parts of theworld, in which the microorganisms that cause malaria are resistant to otherantimalarial medicines. When it is used for prevention, it has to be prescribedby the doctor. It is usually suggested to take the first tablet two daysbefore travelling to the risky area, and then to continue with one tablet perday for the rest of the time spent there. Since it consists of atovaquone and proguanil, the reasonwhy it is so effective in the treatment of malaria lies in the fact that thefirst ingredient stops the production of energy in the microorganism, and theother stops their multiplication in the blood cells.
