Skin care is something that is usually associated with women, who worry about their complexion, buy products, spend time in the bathroom taking care of their appearance. This, of course, is not true. There are many men, more and more every day, who too think about their appearance and about their skin. It can be very frustrating to them to have problematic skin, especially if it is sensitive, prone to allergies and blemishes. There is absolutely no reason why men should not learn about how they can handle their skin problems.

What is sensitive skin

The skin can be termed sensitive for several different reasons, reactions to chemicals, cosmetic products, pollution, sun and similar. It can roughly be divided into four types: burning, stinging, acne and contact dermatitis or rosacea. The last one includes allergies and reactions to certain chemicals and products.

The main symptoms of sensitive skin include tingling, itching, tightening, redness, rashes, bumps, pustules and similar. In men, these symptoms often appear after shaving, but they can be triggered by other factors as well, such as weather or stress. Sensitive skin is particularly prone to blushing and flushing, as well as to hives and eczema.

It is believed that the reasons behind skin becoming sensitive are weakening of the protective barrier and increased sensory input. Sensitive skin care for men

Men who have sensitive skin should determine precisely what factors are triggering their symptoms. For some, it will be spicy or greasy food, caffeine, alcohol or smoking. For others it will be a cosmetic product, like a face moisturizer, aftershave lotion or shaving cream. Some men do not shave their beard right and they should change their technique or use a different razor or trimmer.

Generally, sensitive skin should not be exposed to sudden changes in temperature, although this may be hard to achieve in the winter. It is also important to protect the skin from harsh weather, like wind and exposure to sun. during cold weather, it is recommended to use a high-quality moisturizer and the sunblock with a SPF of 15 or higher is mandatory for the days spent in the sun.

In addition, men should only use hypoallergenic products, which contain no known allergens, artificial colors, preservatives and perfumes, because those ingredients are known for the triggering symptoms of sensitive skin.

Luckily, there are many cosmetic products designed to be suitable for sensitive skin, and they can be found in any drugstore or supermarket.

Oily sensitive skin usually benefits from astringents, while dry skin needs a quality moisturizer. Sensitive skin can be either oily or dry so it is important to know which one it is, in order to choose the appropriate range of products.
