Your arms and hands are the parts of the body which you use the most throughout the day. Due to such frequent activities of arms, pain in arm muscle is a very common condition.
There are a lot of factors which cause pain in the arm muscle. If you used the arms excessively, it can cause the arm muscle tiredness and pain. You can also strain the arm muscle or cause the pain in your wrist, if using a mouse or keyboard for a very long time. Another common cause of the arm muscle pain is a pinched nerve of the arm, shoulders or neck. An injury or fracture of the arm can cause the pain which may not be felt at first but it can start afterwards especially if you move your arm constantly. Exercising in the gym or lifting heavy weight can cause the muscles in the arm to tear, particularly the biceps. Severe pain in the left arm, followed by heavy breathing, nausea and pain in the chest can mean that you are having a heart attack. If the pain in the arm muscle comes with tingling or numbness in the arm, it can be the indication of cervical disc herniation. Dislocation of the shoulder bones can weaken the circulation and this can also cause pain in the arm.
The right treatment is determined according to the cause of the arm muscle pain in this therapy. The easiest therapy is to put some ice on the painful spot but a lot of people use painkillers to ease the pain. If the arm muscle pain and cramps are a consequence of muscle tiredness, the best therapy is to rest the arm for a couple of days. If you are not in a position to rest your arm completely, then limit its movement as much as possible. On the other hand, a special exercise can be performed to relieve the pain. Just raise your arm to the level of your chest and then put it down slowly to its normal position. If the pain is a consequence of a pinched nerve, it is necessary to visit a doctor who will decide on the proper therapy and prescribe the right medications. In case the pain is a result of a dislocated shoulder or a torn biceps, your doctor will suggest electro-therapy or massages along with the medications. In case of cervical disc herniation a surgery may be necessary.
