Arthritis-Overview

Arthritis refers to a group of conditions that affect the joints of the body. To be more precise, it is a chronic inflammatory disorder that most frequently affect the small joints of one’s hands and feet. There are a few types of arthritis. The most common form is osteoarthritis, a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, diseases in which the body attacks itself. Another type, septic arthritis is usually caused by joint infection.

Symptoms of this condition are: joint pain, swelling, joints that are extremely tender to touch, weight loss, fever, tiredness, red and puffy hands, and morning stiffness that may last for several hours. Symptoms may vary in severity and may even come and go. Flare-ups interchange with periods of relative remission, during which the swelling, pain, difficulty sleeping, and weakness fade or disappear. However, if anyone suspects of this disease, it is very important that they consult a doctor, who will prescribe the appropriate course of treatment.

Pain and Arthritis

The major complaint of the people that suffer from arthritis is pain. Pain is often a regular and daily feature of the disease. It might be localized to the back, neck, hip, knee or feet. The pain from arthritis happens due to inflammation that occurs around the joint, painful joints , daily wear and tear of joint, muscles strains caused by forceful movements against stiff, damage to the joint from disease, and fatigue. No matter the cause, the pain generally gets even worse during winter, when the air is very cold. The pain seems to be going straight to the bones, causing the patients to experience even more pain. It is no wonder, then, how many people are concentrating on the relief of this, often unbearable, symptom.
