Milk of magnesia for the skin
Milk of magnesia can be used as a remedy for the skin prone to acne. In fact, it may even be the cheapest solution for this widely present skin problem. Acne is usually associated with oily skin and too much sebum. Milk of magnesia absorbs excess sebum and thus makes the skin less oily. Not only that, it is alkaline in nature and it neutralizes acidic environment of the skin, which becomes less susceptible to acne.
People with oily skin should use milk of magnesia daily, applying a small amount of it with a cotton ball, in a thin layer, and allowing it to dry before rinsing it off. This will not only soak up excess sebum but it will also shrink the pores.
Milk of magnesia can be used as a foundation for make up. It protects the skin from harsh cosmetics and helps hold the make up on throughout the day.
This compound can be used as a soothing agent of irritated skin. It also disinfects the skin, which is why it is often used for preventing or treating diaper rah and jock itch. Milk of magnesia can also be used to relieve different types of rash, itching and irritation.
Skin damage such as sunburns can also be soothed with the use of milk of magnesia. The healing time is shorter and the discomfort is much more mild. The best way to use milk of magnesia for sunburns is to apply a thin coat of it and to allow it to dry. It works best if applied before bedtime and if the skin is left uncovered and allowed to breathe.
Milk of magnesia is absolutely safe for the skin and it can be used every day, however, people who are allergic to magnesium or zinc should probably consult a doctor or an allergist before applying milk of magnesia.
