Macular rash is a type of rash that can appear anywhere on the body in the form of small, red and flat spots. This rash usually disappears on its own after some time, usually within a few weeks, which is why many people do not take it seriously and neglect to report it to a doctor. However, macular rash can indicate a presence of a disorder or a disease in the body, which is why it is better to have it checked out by a physician.

Possible Causes of Macular Rash

Macular rash can be a symptom of several different conditions or disorders, some of them quite serious and some of them common and easily treated.

For example, macular rash is often seen in patients who suffer from alkaptonuria. This rare disorder is caused by an accumulation of homogentisic acid in the body and it damages the bones and the connective tissues. As a result of this disorder, the skin turns dark or blue.

Becker’s nevus is another rare disorder which can cause macular rash. This is a skin disorder characterized by irregular patches on the skin which eventually turn hard, elevated and hairy.

Erythrasma is is an infection of skin folds, seen in both children and in adults. It is caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum and it often involves macular rash.

Lentigo maligna is a type of skin cancer or melanoma which consists of a group of cancerous cells that does not grow or spread. Some of its symptoms include macular rash as well.

Macular rash can also be seen in patients who have measles. This type of rash is often seen in HIV/AIDS patients as well.

Treatment for Macular Rash

It is clear that this type of rash must be investigated in order to determine what exactly is causing it. Different diseases call for different treatment, and in most cases the rash disappears soon after the treatment begins. However, there are ways to effectively speed up the recovery and get rid of the unsightly rash.

Olive oil is very good for the skin and it helps with numerous ailments. It can help against macular rash too, if applied directly to the skin in small amounts. Cod liver oil mixed with some vitamin E obtained from supplement capsules can help too.

Aloe vera gel, juice or pure pulp can be applied directly to the skin affected with macular rash. Aloe vera has antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties and it is very beneficial for the skin.

Oatmeal, paste made of baking soda and water and chamomile tea all have the ability to reduce inflammation and the intensity of macular rash.

The skin should be clean and dry at all times and it should not be scratched or picked at.
