Introduction

Some of the most common parasites that attack the intestines are protozoa and helminthes. Protozoa are characterized by having only one cell and they commonly multiply inside the human body. Helminthes are organisms that consist of numerous cells and they can be divided into groups of roundworms, pinworms and tapeworms.

All parasites are commonly transmitted by infected feces. Some people who have intestinal parasites never get to experience any symptoms, while those who do usually experience nausea, stomach pain, fatigue, abdominal pain, rashes, gas, abdominal bloating, weight loss, dysentery, and vomiting.

Homeopathic remedies cannot be used for the treatment of intestinal parasites but they can be of great help when it comes to relieving some of the symptoms associated with intestinal parasites. Usually the homeopathic remedies are supposed to be taken on a daily basis over the course of six weeks or more.

Infectious diseases caused by parasites are a major threat for the entire mankind, especially in the tropics. More than 1 billion people world-wide are directly exposed to tropical parasites such as the causative agents of trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis and onchocerciasis, which represent a major health problem, particularly in impecunious areas. Unlike most antibiotics, there is no “general” antiparasitic drug available. Here, the selection of antiparasitic drugs varies between different organisms. Some of the parasitic diseases are:
  • Subcutaneous filariasis or onchocerciasis is a parasitic disease that is caused by O. volvulus.
  • Lymphatic Filariasis LF is a parasitic disease that is caused by Brugia sp. and W. bancrofti.
  • Schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia, bilharziosis or snail fever) is a chronic parasitic disease caused by trematode parasites of the genus Schistosoma.
  • Human pathogens of the genus Leishmania and Trypanosoma are restricted to several species causing Chagas disease (Trypanosoma cruzi), sleeping sickness (T. brucei) and leishmaniosis (a group of disease caused by parasites of the genus Leishmania).
