Hiatal Hernia

Hiatal hernia is the medical term for the condition marked by the upward push-up of the diaphragm by the stomach. The hiatus is the small opening on the diaphragm through which the esophagus or food tube passes. When hiatus is pushed up, it is called hiatal hernia. Hiatal hernia can be small and have no symptoms or warning signs, or can be large and cause heartburn, chest pain, belching, and nausea.

Homeopathic Remedies for Hiatal Hernia

One of the symptoms of hiatal hernia is heartburn. To alleviate this symptom, calendula flower tea is very good because it may decrease the inflammation of the affected tissues. Slippery elm is also very effective for heartburn and it is available in the form of powder of which a tea can be prepared. This tea does not have a very pleasant taste, and it is better to sweeten it with sugar. Acid reflux wedge pillow also helps those suffering from heartburn.

Furthermore, the diaphragm must be made stronger, because it is the most important muscle that regulates the breathing process. To strengthen it, the exercises such as deep breathing and advanced yoga may help a lot. One of the most effective exercises for the training of the diaphragm is the blowing of party balloons.

There are also several suggestions regarding the lifestyle of the person who suffers from hiatal hernia. For example, it is recommended to eat several small meals during a day, instead of a few large ones. Moreover, it is advisable not to eat after 5 pm. Chocolate, onions, spicy foods, tomato, fatty foods, and citrus fruits, as well as meat, should be avoided. On the other hand, rice, steamed vegetables, sprouted seeds and grains, yogurt, and vegetable juices are suggested.

Of fruits, dried figs, pineapple, and papaya are the most recommended. Moreover, almonds are very good for heartburn whether they are raw or roasted. Smoking and consuming alcohol must be stopped.

It is preferable to sit after the meal and not to lie down. If the person with a hiatal hernia is obese, it is advisable to lose weight. Certain alternative medicine researchers state that hiatal hernia can be cured by hand, simply by pushing the stomach back in its normal place, but this method is not fully tested yet. Many doctors suggest chiropractic adjustments.

To alleviate the symptoms of hiatal hernia, a life without stress is necessary. Therefore, reading, listening to music, and relaxation may largely contribute to the lessening of the symptoms of this condition. Otherwise, if the symptoms are severe, the best solution is to go and visit a doctor.

A hiatal hernia occurs when part of your stomach pushes upward through your diaphragm. Your diaphragm normally has a small opening (hiatus) through which your food tube (esophagus) passes on its way to connect to your stomach. The stomach can push up through this opening and cause a hiatal hernia.
