Inflammation of tonsils is called tonsillitis, and tonsils are the important in prevention of various kinds of infections that enters our body trough our mouth. In cases when tonsillitis is not treated accordingly, it may develop some dangerous post infection states, like ear infections.If the tonsillitis is recurrent, it is considered chronic.

Symptoms of tonsillitis are difficulty to swallow, fever, pain in the entire body or a sore throat and headache. More serious symptoms may be enlarges gland behind ears, strong pain when try to swallow, high fever and sometime even ear pain. In case of inflammation accompanied with high fever, you probably have bacteria induced inflammation, in which case you should see a doctor.

Doctor may examine you and simply by looking down your throat, he can establish the tonsillitis diagnose. He may also ask about your previous medical problems with tonsils, in order to establish recurrence of inflammation, and prescribe you a proper medications and treatments.

There are various home remedies that you can try in cases of tonsillitis, which should ease the symptoms of tonsillitis like fever, sneezing or runny nose. But you must be very careful with little children, especially under age of two; before give them any cold or cough medicine, you must consult your doctor, because they can be potentially harmful. Also, antihistamines, antiseptic mouthwashes, or decongestants are proven NOT to work with tonsillitis, and so you should not use them, either on you, or your children.

Some of them may be;

Carrot, cucumber or beet raw vegetable juice from can be mixed together, or taken separately. Either way it is very helpful.

Occasional bowel cleansing using hot water and daily breathing exercises can be very helpful, too, in order to relieve annoying symptoms of tonsillitis.

In any case, avoid using any pain killer medications on children under six months.

Milk is also very important in reducing tonsillitis symptoms. Try to mix powdered pepper with warm milk and take it before night sleep.

Lime is one of most common home remedy for tonsillitis. You can try to make a mixture of fresh lime and warm water, with honey and kitchen salt, and drink it slowly.

Applying ice pack on your throat and also Epsom salt bath can be very useful.

Combination of dried leaves of pudina or onion and warm water can be excellent for gargle, and it is one of the best home remedies for tonsillitis.

Patient should rest as much as possible, and you should also try to use vaporizer in patient’s room.
