Fever blisters

Fever blisters or cold sores are a common problem among many people all over the world. The main cause of cold sores is a certain virus called herpes simplex virus 1 or HSV-1. People need to know that this particular virus is highly contagious and that there is still no cure for it. A person who is infected by it will have it for the rest of his or her life and will most likely suffer from frequent outbreaks of cold sores. However, that does not have to be the case as there are a lot of possible treatments that people can use in order to make the outbreaks of blisters less frequent. Fever blisters usually occur on the lips or in the area around the mouth. In rare cases they are developed in the throat or in the nose. Apart from not being a pretty sight for the eyes, fever blisters cause a lot of pain and that is one of the main reasons why people should treat them as soon as they appear. In most cases the blisters last for ten days but people can speed the healing process with some simple home remedies.

Faster healing of fever blisters

Even though the blisters will go away on their own after ten days or so, it is far better if people make sure that the healing process commences faster. It is important that the people do not pick or try to squeeze the blisters as they would pimples because that way they will only make things worse by spreading the infection. The first thing that a person can do when he or she suffers from an outbreak of cold sores is to make sure that they last for as short as possible. The best ways to achieve that is to avoid direct sunlight and make sure that no damage comes to the lips. Kissing and applying lipstick needs to be avoided at all cost.

There are a lot of creams that people can apply to the blisters. A person can make his or her own mixture using one drop of lemon balm, rose oil, chamomile or lavender with 10 drops of jojoba oil. After mixing them, a person should apply the mixture directly to the blisters. This can be done several times per day.

Aloe vera cream is an excellent remedy for fever blisters as well.

If a person is prone to frequent outbreaks of fever blisters, he or she should take 1 gram of lysine every day.
