Eczema is an umbrella term, encompassing many types of skin inflammation. Moreover, skin inflammation, in many of its forms is called skin dermatitis. Naturally, there can be many possible forms of eczema, some being more dangerous than others.
Either way, eczema can appear on all people, affecting the surface of their skin, regardless of the age, sex or any other factors. However, it is known that about 80% of all eczemas appear before the 5th year of age. Therefore, most occurrences of eczema disappear by the age of 3. Yet, the less fortunate may experience outbreaks of eczema throughout their lives, especially if they have a family history of eczema or some other allergic conditions.
Medication for Eczema
Statistically, about 20% of children and up to 2% of adults suffer from eczema, the condition being a bit more common in females than in males.
As for the causes of eczema, health experts are usually puzzled by this condition, not being sure about the reasons behind its onset, nor the factors which can lead to it. However, they presume that our immune system is the trigger of the outbreaks associated with eczema. Therefore, some genetic factors may be involved, leading to these reactions once our skin or some other parts of our body get in contact with some chemicals, materials or other substances around us.
Apart from these factors, environmental causes such as humidity, substances in the air and temperature changes, stress and psychological problems can also lead to the appearance of eczema. Most commonly, eczema manifests through dry, red skin patches which cause a burning sensation or a feeling of irritation, even though the manifestations of eczema may vary from one individual to another.
Eczema may appear on any parts of our skin, most commonly being noticed on the face, the neck, the elbows, the ankles and knees. When it affects babies, eczema appears on the forehead, cheeks, scalp, forearms and neck, in most cases.
Fortunately, a vast majority of eczema types are bound to disappear over the course of hours of a couple of days. If this does not happen, you are advised to seek medical assistance.
The main treatment for eczema you are bound to get once you seek your doctor's help are corticosteroid creams. These topical medications ease the irritation that goes hand-in-hand with eczema and reduce the swelling and the redness. Depending on the severity of the eczema, the suitable potency of corticosteroid creams should be chosen.
If the itching does not subside, you are likely to be given antihistamine drugs. Sometimes, the outbreak of the eczema can be successfully prevented with the help of oral corticosteroids. However, this form of treatment is not recommended in the long run. Alternatively, some occurrences of eczema were successfully treated with ultraviolet light therapy or some other, FDA approved, topical medications.
Anti-Itch Lotion for Eczema

Natural oils are the best ingredients these lotions may have. On the other hand, mineral oils most often lead to more skin problems such as inflammations and allergic reactions.
If we take the knowledge from the past into consideration, we notice that, in the Indian culture, coconut oil was used for treating eczema for ages. Therefore, coconut oil is recommended as an ingredient of your anti-itch lotion.
Oatmeal is also one of the best choices for treating eczema, soothing the skin. Neem-oil-based products are also recommended due to their beneficial effects on the skin.
