Eating for Your Blood TypeBlood is classified in four different types: A, B, AB and O. Most of the people have blood type O while blood type AB is very rare and less than 5% of general population has this blood type. It is believed that blood type of a person determines his or her reaction to different foods. Two individuals with different blood types do not equally digest the same foods.
Blood Type O
The first blood type identified was blood type O and the trace goes back to Cro-Magnon man. Since humans that had lived around 40,000 B.C. mainly ate high protein diet based on meat, people with blood type O have the strongest digestive systems. This type of blood requires mainly animal protein diet which efficiently digests due to of plenty of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. On the other hand, coffee should be restricted because it stimulates production of stomach acid which can lead to peptic ulcer. Blood type O individuals have low thyroid and slow metabolism therefore they should eat sources of iodine such as seafood and sea kelp. To prevent weight gain people with blood type O should avoid: corn, beans, lentils, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, sugar and white flour. If trying to lose weight blood type O individuals should eat: bluefish, cod, herring, mackerel, pike, rainbow trout, red snapper, salmon, sardines, shad, sole, swordfish, whitefish, beef, buffalo, lamb, live, mutton, veal, venison, kale, spinach and broccoli. Foods that are recommended to avoid includes: bacon, goose, ham, pork, caviar, cheese, ice cream, kefir, milk, yogurt, peanuts, brazil nuts, cereals, avocado, egg plant, mushrooms, olives, potatoes, oranges, strawberries, coconuts, and tangerines.
Blood Type ASince people with blood type A evolved from meat-eater to grain and vegetable-eaters they have delicate digestive systems. Blood type A individuals should stick to the vegetables, fruits and whole grains while avoiding meat and dairy products. This blood type is prone to anemia due to poor absorption of vitamin B12 therefore should supplement this vitamin. Food that is recommended includes: vegetable oils, soy products, spirulina, vegetables and pineapple. Food that should be avoided include: meat, dairy products, beans, sugar, white flour, seafood, orange, tomato, bananas, melon, olives and black tea.
Blood Type B
People with blood type B tolerate most foods due to strong digestive system. They may gain weight if consume corn, lentils, peanuts and wheat products. On the other hand, foods that encourage weight loss include: green vegetables, lamb, turkey, eggs, seafood, soy products, oat meal and licorice tea. Other foods to avoid are: chicken, shellfish, olives, tomatoes, pumpkin, cinnamon, sunflower, barley, rye and sodas.
Blood Type ABThis blood type is rare and has emerged in recent 1000 years. People with blood type AB should avoid foods that are bad for type A and type B persons except for tomatoes. Weight gain is encouraged with red meat, beans, corn and wheat. Foods that contribute weight loss include tofu, green vegetables, seafood and pineapple.
