In the females, the puberty commences between 8 and 13 years of age and it has several phases. It is a period of transition from the childhood to the adulthood and while some girls are excited about it, there are also those who are not so happy when they get their first menarche, which is the name for the very first menstruation.

From the first menstruation the ovaries continue to release the eggs every month during the whole reproductive ages until the menopause. The menstrual cycle regularly lasts about 28 days, but it may be different from woman to woman. Those women who have irregular menstrual cycle may face many problems and discomforts with the onset of every menstruation, such as, for example, heavy menstruation, missed menstruation or severe pains while menstruation lasts. However, it is observed that almost every woman experiences some irregularities in her menstrual cycle once in a while. Nevertheless, frequent early menstrual periods usually cause a great deal of concern.

Early menstrual period

Regular menstrual periods are those periods when the women can predict every month the exact day when she will get her menstruation. Nevertheless, there are certain factors like aging, as well as various physical and psychological states, which make a great impact on the menstrual cycle in women, thus making it difficult to calculate the date when the menstruation will begin. The early menstrual periods are considered to be those that start less than 23 days from the beginning of the previous menstruation.

Causes of early menstrual period

Estrogen and progesterone are the hormones that regulate ovulation and menstruation in women and when their balance is disturbed, it leads to the irregular menstrual cycle, in this case to the early menstrual period. The hormonal imbalance of progesterone and estrogen may be induced either by malfunctioning of the glands whose hormones stimulate their production, or by some mental and physical factors such as, extreme anxiety, stress and exhaustion.

Early menstrual cycle may be triggered by the condition called endometriosis, which is marked by growing of the endometrial cells on the places outside the uterus. Menses irregularities may also be induced by various reproductive system infections and disorders like formation of the ovarian cysts. Furthermore, after practicing unsafe sex, the women who take emergency birth control pill may experience early menstrual cycle since these pills are made of high levels of hormones necessary to prevent the implantation of the fertilized egg. These hormones tend to cause hormonal imbalance of progesterone and estrogen and thus, early menstruation occurs.
