Even though such drinks that are specially made for the purpose of increasing one’s overall energy levels (as the all famous Red bull, for example) can provide one with “wings”, they have a perilous potential to harm one’s health as well. And this should not be taken lightly or with a tongue in cheek attitude, but with earnest concern. In addition, what such power drinks as Red bull also do is enhance the risk of occurrence of a number of more severe health issues such as stroke and heart attack.
Loaded and waiting to explode
The drinks in question, are known to contain caffeine, vitamins, ginseng, Guarana, yerba mate, ginkgo biloba, and other lesser ingredients, but, the greatest majority of them is also jam packed with sugar. When it comes to Red bull, according to the findings of the team of research experts in Australia, it has been revealed that this energy drink can have extremely negative consequences on person’s blood system. What it does is make it sticky, thus increasing the risk of developing various cardiovascular ailments. They are also known to be the cause of fatal cases in the US. Another fact that is a cause for concern is, the amount of caffeine found in 12 oz. of this liquid energy booster is greater than that found in 14 cans of Coca-Cola.
For those who are not that familiar with the precise amounts of energy drinks' constituents, when it comes to caffeine, it is present from 50 to more than 500 milligrams, in comparison to 12 oz of cola drink (35 milligrams) and brewed 6 oz cup of coffee (80 to 150 milligrams). Unfortunately, one thing that puts all this in the background is the fact that energy boosters in the form of drinks are actually promoted as dietary supplements, with the overall limitation of 71 milligrams per 12 oz cannot being valid in this case. And this is, of course, one of the main reasons why people who buy these drinks are not aware of all the dangers each sip brings.
Downsides
Some of the most harmful side effects that these drinks have the ability to induce are such as dental decay, energy highs and lows, severe headaches, heart palpitations, hindered perception when it comes to intoxication, increased risk of injuring oneself, to name but those most serious ones.
