This text deals with the blockage of fallopian tubes and in order to understand what kind of the problem this is, first we must have some general information about fallopian tubes. Every female body has two fallopian tubes that lead to uterus. The purpose of them is to bring the fertilized egg into the uterus. If there is a blockage of one of fallopian tubes, it means that the egg isn’t able to reach the uterus and therefore, a woman has less chance to get pregnant. Blockage of fallopian tubes is also known as tubal factor infertility, because it is the cause for 40% of infertility cases in women.

The cause of infertility

As we all know, every month a woman ovulates and her ovaries produce one egg. The path of that egg starts from the ovary through the tubes and into the womb. The sperm's final destination is also the womb so that it can fertilize the egg, but if there is some kind of the obstruction in the fallopian tubes, the egg can’t reach the uterus and the sperm can fertilize the egg. There are also cases of partial tubal blockage, and in this case, the risk from tubal pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy is increased.

Causes of blocked fallopian tubes

In vast majority of cases, the major cause is pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Even if women don’t have at the moment PID, their medical history of PID can increase the risk of the blocked fallopian tubes. There are some other potential causes of the blocked fallopian tubes and they include the presence of sexual transmitted diseases (Chlamydia or Gonorrhea), endometriosis, history of the uterine infection, abdominal surgery, ruptured appendix and previous ectopic pregnancy or surgery of fallopian tubes.

Can Blocked Fallopian Tubes Be Fixed?

In modern medicine, there are two ways to solve the problem of fallopian tubes blockage. The first one is tubal surgery and the second one IVF. Nowadays, the doctors share the opinion that the best solution is IVF. If a woman has one open tube, then she won't have many problems with getting pregnant. Sometimes, the doctors may prescribe some drugs so than this procedure is fastened.

It can also happen that the fallopian tubes are blocked due to some inner tissue scar and in that case, a laparoscopy can solve the problem. You have to know that after the fallopian tubes surgery you will be at risk of having ectopic pregnancy, but you will be informed about all of that by your gynecologist. Anyway, it is good to know that the issue of blocked fallopian tubes can be solved and you can also enjoy in motherhood, just like every other woman.
